There are several sacred pits on Sardinia including the 3000 year old "Santa Cristina" which is just inland from Oristano at Paulilatino. At sunrise during the solstice and the equinox, the sun's rays shine right down the stairway onto the water at the bottom of this well, and once every 18 years the full moon shines through a small opening in the roof of the pit room and reflects perfectly in the water. The ancient "Domus de Janas" which means "House of Fairies", and the "Tomb of the Giants" are tombs encased within the rocks which many Sardinians visit on pilgrimage to experience the healing energy which they are reputed to hold.
